   As part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, will lead the Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea, from April 21 to 25, 2024.

2. Food and Drink Services Returning to the Plains of Abraham Starting in June

   The National Battlefields Commission (NBC) is announcing the return of food and drink services on the Plains of Abraham. Starting in June, La Maison Smith will open a permanent branch branch, as well as operate the Smith Mobile and an espresso bicycle to serve the whole historic site.

   On April 16, 2024, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) held a Change of Command Ceremony at Saskatchewan Penitentiary in the Prairie Region. This occasion marked the change in command from the outgoing Warden Shawn Bird to the incoming Warden Pattie Krafchuk.

13. Supporting Oral Health Providers’ Participation in the Canadian Dental Care Plan

    Today, the Government of Canada announced a number of actions to enable oral health providers to participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), with the goal of making it easier for them to participate as they choose, and to support patient access to providers in all regions of the country. This means that oral health professionals who choose not to participate fully in the Canadian Dental Care Plan will still be able to treat and submit claims for reimbursement for services provided to CDCP clients as of July.

    Budget 2024 lays out a bold strategy to unlock 3.87 million new homes by 2031. Federal actions will support at least 1.2 million new homes, and the federal government is calling on all orders of government to build at least 800,000 more homes by 2031. The federal government’s plan provides incentives for all orders of government, as well as for private and non-profit sector partners, and will build more homes, make it easier to own or rent a home, and help Canadians who can’t afford a home, too.

The federal government continues to prioritize its responsibility to help ensure First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities have what they need to grow and succeed on their own terms. Budget 2024 invests in the next steps on the path of reconciliation.

    Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. For generations, this has meant Canada is a place where everyone could secure a better future for themselves and their children. This is in no small part is due to our commitment to progressive taxation. In order to build a fair economy, everyone needs to pay their fair share. To restore fairness for every generation the government is investing in housing; in building the clean, innovative economy of the future; in child care, health care, dental care, and pharma care; in Canada’s security, and Canada’s future. The government is doing this so that young people can have the same opportunities as previous generations. Canada’s future success depends on their success. It is only fair that these important investments are funded by those who have benefited the most from all the opportunity that Canada has to offer.

34. Government of Canada Announces More Funding to Build Wildfire Fighting Capacity and Enhance Training Best Practices

    That is why today in Ottawa, at the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Canadian Legislative Conference, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, announced up to $800,000 in funding for the IAFF to deliver training and increase the capacity of structural firefighters across the country. Structural firefighters refers to those trained to combat fires within enclosed spaces, such as residential homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and public infrastructure. Funding will also support Canada’s wildfire preparedness and response efforts to wildland urban interface fires, those that occur in areas where urban or developed areas meet with wildland or natural environments. Fires in these areas are particularly worrisome in that they pose substantial threats to lives and livelihoods, and the spread of thick smoke and evacuations can cause immense stress and disruption for communities. Addressing wildfires in interface areas is especially critical due to the high concentration of people living in these regions. With approximately 10 percent of the Canadian population residing in interface areas spanning 32 million hectares, the scope of the interface presents a significant challenge in wildfire management.

36. Government of Canada increases marine shipping penalties to a maximum of $250,000 per violation

    Today, the Minister of Transport, Pablo Rodriguez, announced that the value of monetary penalties for violations under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 has been increased from a maximum of $25,000 to a new maximum of $250,000.
